Koh Phangan, Thailand
Koh Phangan is located in the Soutern Gulf of Thailand and is part of the group of islands that make up the Samui Archipelago. Koh Phangan is 70 kms from the mainland and about 12 kms away from Koh Samui, which is the closest airport to the island.
A much quieter and less developed island than that of Koh Samui, Koh Phangan offers a beautiful location for healing and transformation to occur. Activities on the island include diving (with 20 local dive sites), waterfall walks and an energetic nightlife in the town of Haad Rin, well known for its full moon parties.
Many people also visit the island for a slower pace of life and to take advantage of the cheaper healing modalities on offer. These include Thai massage, yoga, acupuncture and detox programs.
Koh Phangan is most easily accessible via Koh Samui airport, though it is slightly cheaper to fly into the transport hub of Surat Thani on the mainland. From Koh Samui, a fast boat takes about 25 minutes and transport to the wharf can be easily organised at the airport.
If choosing to travel first to Surat Thani, there are many travel agencies in the city to purchase an all-in-one ticket to Koh Phangan, which includes a bus to the wharf and the ferry ticket.
If coming to Koh Phangan from Khao San Rd in Bangkok, you can buy a joint ticket from most travel agencies, which includes a bus from Bangkok to Suratthani, a bus from Suratthani to the pier, and the ferry to Koh Phangan. There are also goverment buses which go directly to Koh Phangan from the south bus terminal (you will need to pay extra for the ferry).
